Commissions
Muldoon Studios welcomes commissions and we provide a few examples of those we have already undertaken.
Polo Pony
Polly With this painting, I hoped to capture some of the speed and control required to play polo. Painted in acrylic, I decided to move away from a more traditional background and use strong, deep colours to create a more brooding atmosphere around the pony and player.

Toki
Polly This is a commission for a portrait of Toki, a liver Flat Coated Retriever. Painted in oils on fine grain linen, I hope to have captured a little of her alert, buoyant personality, whilst remaining in the classic portrait stance.

Heron
Polly Being fortunate enough to live near a river, I regularly see this heron hunting. An unwelcome visitor to ornamental ponds, these striking birds are fascinating to watch. They hunt by stalking in shallow water for fish, frogs and water voles, occasionally pretending to be asleep, and strike their prey with lightning reflexes.
Painted in very thin oils on canvas, this study is preparation for a larger canvas I have planned depicting my favourite stretch of the River Test.

Gertrude
Gertrude
This portrait of a dachshund puppy was commission to commemorate her arrival into her new home. Although still a puppy, Gertrude sat perfectly for her photos, as though she had seen it all before. She was painted in acrylic on canvas board and her rough coat, particularly on her paws, was a joy to paint.

Polly
Polly This portrait of Polly, a Border Collie bitch, was commissioned as a surprise birthday present for her very proud owner, from her husband. Painted in oils on canvas, I was asked to illustrate her enjoying the sun of an August day, as her owner’s birthday falls in that month. To continue the surprise until the very last moment, Polly’s owner was brought to the studio on her birthday, on the pretext that they were just calling in ‘to have a look round’ before going on to lunch somewhere locally.
The portrait was on display, with the other paintings in the gallery, and it was hoped that her owner would recognise Polly as she looked round. Although somewhat nerve wracking, it worked perfectly. It was a week of double celebration as one of Polly’s sons had just qualified for Crufts.

Winston
Winston This painting was an early commission for a portrait of Winston, a Scottish Terrier. It seemed only right to paint him reclining in his favourite spot. He was painted in acrylic on canvas board.

Roo and Teal
Roo and Teal This portrait of two Flatcoat Retrievers was commissioned as a wedding present for their owners. Roo and Teal were impeccably behaved for their photos and seemed a little disappointed when the ‘shoot’ was over. Their glossy, black coats were quite a challenge and the painting took many months to complete. They were painted in oil on stretched canvas.

Chance
Chance This portrait of Chance, a very handsome Golden Retriever, was commissioned as an 18th birthday present for his owner. Chance was not at all impressed at having to sit still, to have his photograph taken, as his friendly nature insisted he played with everyone.
His long, silky coat was wonderful to paint and we decided to keep the background simple so as not to distract from him at all. He was painted in oils on canvas board.

Mallards
Mallards This small oil painting, of a pair of mallards, was bought for a private collection. The two mallards in question lived with me, on the farm, and were both rescued orphans. Usually limited to their pond and nibbling what was left of the garden, I decided to paint them investigating a stretch of riverbank on the Test.
This river runs through Stockbridge, where they were originally found, and although they never showed any interest in returning to the wild, I thought it would be nicer to paint them in their natural environment.
